Listen to the Podcast
I want to share with you today some thoughts on do you have to become an SEO expert to become successful on the YouTube platform.
YouTube Stars
I think it’s essential to take a look at some of these most successful YouTube stars out there. As you can see, here’s a cover of Anastasia.

I believe Anastasia is a girl from Russia. She’s five or six years old and making a boatload of money – millions from YouTube.
Ryan Kaji does a lot of reviews on YouTube toys or toys on YouTube. And I don’t think he’s an SEO expert. Maybe his parents know some SEO, but ultimately creating viral videos and keyword-rich videos. And just people spreading word of mouth creates some very successful YouTube channels.
Here as well, Dude Perfect, and then you have Anastasia. If you’re trying to run a business and you’re a multimedia company, and you want to hire an SEO expert, I don’t think she’s an SEO expert.
But her videos are doing phenomenal. They’re ranked well, and it’s spread like wildfire. She does have cerebral palsy, so some of those things spread just due to the stories and those kinds of things how things tie in.
But that’s a whole different ballgame when it comes to marketing. And you can see a lot of these other people who are getting paid millions of dollars, and they’re probably not SEO experts.
I think it’s vital for you if you’re starting out and if you’re brand new on the YouTube space that you think about what it is that you want to do. And what do you want to accomplish from it?
And how are your videos going to get that exposure?
Getting YouTube Views

Remember, YouTube is not the only platform where you can get YouTube views. If you’re trying to capture the views from YouTube, it might not be the only place to get it.
Ultimately, you’re trying to do this SEO thing to maximize what you’re trying to get. But the views can happen through viral videos. And they can get spread through let’s say Facebook. They can go spread through Pinterest. And even if you’re using videos on your blog or website, this can be through just a simple google search as well.
The SEO part has an impact in the sense of how do you maximize reach. If you have keyword-rich titles and your titles become a superstar, and they’re hitting things.
And instead of let’s say the 16th place, you might now be in place number five. That, of course, does help. Just knowing a little bit of knowledge allows you to be a little bit ahead of your competition or other people in your niche.
But if you’ve got that viral effect and you’ve got a storyline behind it, and it spreads things, that’s how people become superstars. But when you look at simple regular industries, getting and becoming a little more proficient with SEO does help. But do you have to be the top 10 in your industry to make YouTube successful?
No, you don’t. You need to know some basic knowledge to get things going. Of course, with the time you’re going to continue to learn, evolve, and grow those things. But that’s what you’re trying to do.
Constantly ramp up your game, learn a little bit more on how to rank your videos a little higher. And that’s what SEO helps you do.
- But do you have to be number 1?
- Do you have to be the top SEO expert in the industry?
No and no.
You have to learn how to:
- write nice rich keyword titles
- do some other things that interlink
And with the time you got all these different components that are working together to get your videos ranked higher. You might know a couple of them.

And this one might be the SEO titles. At some things, you’re a little more proficient. At some, you’re a bit less skilled. But with the time you get better at each and every single one of these.
And your machine starts to run and operate better. That’s my clear point and thought.
Learn, Evolve & Get Better

That’s the concept you need to apply, especially in your industry.
Here’re ways to compete:
- price
- service
- delivery
- sales capacity
- quality
You can compete on these levels. And let’s say you’re good at sales capacity – this would be your SEO.
Of course, if you knock the service out of the park or your lower price or your quality is better, there’re other ways to compete.
Final Word
In the YouTube space, if you’re looking at how do you get your videos in front of people – it’s going to be that sales part.
Remember, YouTube is just part of your business. Look at some of the other factors that you could use to continue to compete further in the space.
