We’re going to talk about guarantees. Should you offer them? How to think about guarantees when it comes to structuring your business?

You might have seen a lot of different services out there where they offer money-back guarantees from maybe buying a course or signing up to a particular product and email list. For example, if somebody did have a problem and come to your store and say “Hey, I have a problem with this. Would you take care of it?”

If the answer is yes, would you try to make them happy? If the answer is yes, then you’re not taking advantage of your guarantee.

Think about how it is that I would help my customers. To what lengths would I go to ensure my customer is happy?

Because if you think about that, then you can use that guarantee to your advantage. Some people don’t want to include a guarantee.

But the problem is the customers. They’re not all going to be happy. There’s always going to be somebody unhappy. Maybe you didn’t use the right words, and they misunderstood — whatever the case may be, they were quick to purchase and might not be happy. And you have to cater to that customer.

But what I want you to think about is the big picture.

Let’s say you have a ton of unhappy customers, and suddenly, these dissatisfied customers tell other people. Now, you have a lot of more unhappy people that don’t want your product and service.

This can continue to spiral out of control.

What you want to do is make sure that your customers are at least somewhat satisfied or happy.

Some people what they do is they even go above and beyond.

Let’s say you purchase a $95 photo session with someone. And it took one hour to do, and you weren’t happy with the photos. What happens sometimes is not only do you get a refund from some photographers that I’ve worked with and what we’ve done and consulted with, but you get a refund plus you get either another session that’s different or you get double your money back. It’s what some stores do –it’s a twice as good or twice as happy guarantee.

If you’re not happy, not only do we give you your refund, but we pay you $95 as well, and that goes right into your pocket.

You might be thinking, “aren’t some people going to take advantage of that?” Maybe some people will. But the thing is if you have people that actually buy your product and now you have you know not just one person but two, three, four, or five people that are starting to purchase your product because they see the no-risk guarantee that you’re offering. Now, you have more people that may convert.

Because if you don’t show your guarantee, you might just get one purchase. But if you say hey there’s no risk and you get your money back, you might get more people to convert.

That’s ultimately what you want to think about. If you can offer and try to make your customers happy, think about what levels and extents you would go.

You might, of course, have some people that try to take advantage of your services, it’s going to happen. But if you do excellent service, ultimately, the majority of people will stick with you and stick by you to support you in the long run.

I like to think that there are just many more good people out there than bad people are trying to take advantage of you.

I hope this makes sense. I hope it gives you a great perspective on using your guarantee. Use that guarantee to your full advantage. Present it to the customers with a bold message.
