How Many Online Courses Should You Create or Sell?

In this week’s post, I want to share with you how many online courses you should make and create if you’re in the digital space.

Or you’re trying to create digital products for your audience. 

Making Online Courses – Facts

You might be a tax accountant creating an online course to help people manage their online Quick Books a little bit better. You might be a painter, and you want to create an online course.

Here’s the main question: How many online courses should you have when you’re building out this business?

If you’re in the online space and you’re trying to create online digital courses, I think it’s essential that you recognize there’s a sweet spot.

If you create one single course, you only have one offering for a product. And as you know, you probably have purchased more than a single type of toothbrush in the past. You have probably bought different types of floss, different types of toothpaste, and you’ve tried different things.

And this is the same thing when it comes to creating online courses. 

Dental care, just like the online space, requires multiple products for you to keep your teeth nice and clean. Same thing when you’re working out. You want those nice fancy water bottles. You want to buy some weights. And things like that.

There’s a lot of products and services out there that you need. And that’s a suite of products. And that’s what I want you to think about.

As you can see, I don’t just have one course.

They’re people who are interested in:

  • building a business from scratch 
  • blogging 
  • marketing a blog 
  • video marketing

If you look at my product suite from all of my businesses, there’s a lot of stock market education courses. And you can see it’s not just one single course. And that’s what I want you to think about.

It’s best if you’re looking to build out a suite. It’s not just one course because some people are interested in mindsets. Other people are interested in day trading. We have a little bit more insight on day trading.

Some people are interested in penny stocks. Some people are interested in just getting started. You need to have different products to cater to different people and a different audience.

And that’s the big picture that I want you to think about and get from this video.

The Right Approach to Creating Online Course 

You might have a platform like:

  • YouTube
  • Pinterest 
  • Twitter 

It could be wherever you’re getting your traffic from. And then you might be interested in making a course. You take this course, and you make a single course, and now people want it.

Let’s say that the course was very successful. You have this course number one. That’s done, but now you’ve got a few of these people that are interested in maybe a level 2 course.

You might have an online course Getting Started with Pinterest. A lot of people bought this course and let’s say you made $20,000 on this course. Maybe you sold 1000 copies.

I don’t know. It just depends on the price and on how many people bought it. Now you get into level two. Level two could be, let’s say, advanced strategies with Pinterest or Pinterest marketing.

Out of that 1000, you might not get as many people because there are more beginners than there are advanced people. Out of that thousand, maybe you get 200 or 300 people that buy that course. That’s because it’s advanced now the price might be a little bit higher. 

It could be two times it could be 1.5 times the price of the other one. And now if you take those hundred people and now multiply that, maybe you could make just as much money.

And then you create level three, maybe a subset. And instead of just Pinterest, you have Pinterest marketing and youtube together. And now, you have a synergy course.

For example, you can have courses like this: 

  • How to use YouTube to increase Pinterest?
  • How to use Pinterest to increase YouTube traffic?

You create a mixed course here, and now you could create like this bundle. You have this bundle that can be created and sold as well as a package.

That’s another way to look at things, and some people are interested in a bundle deal in a bundle package. And now you have a suite.

How to Make People to Buy Your Online Course?

The thing is if you have 45 courses on Pinterest, that’s probably getting a little too extreme. And people just don’t know what to buy. And this is why when you look at checkout pages, there’s typically 2 or 3 tiers of checkout.

You could buy level 1, level 2, and level 3. It’s a low mid and high, and usually, people can pick from something like that.

Here’s the concept to follow: Do you want a small, medium, or a large milkshake?

It’s the same thing if you’ve got at 1, 2, or 3 within a group or subset; it’s usually an easier choice. And if you got maybe 4 or 5, that’s typically okay as well depending on your niche and industry and how specific you’re getting.

What to do If things don’t work out?

Let’s say you did this mixed bundle right here. And it might happen that this was a flop or a loss. Maybe you spent a lot of time, and it just didn’t sell very well. 

It could be the case that people aren’t interested in mixing Pinterest and YouTube. In that case, at least you have these other two that you created.

Think of the bigger picture of how you can get a suite and not just a single one-off product. That’s because if that first product was a loss and then people stopped making the course while you might have missed out on number 2 and number 3 where there was bigger money to be made.

The right approach to building out your business is about building a product suite and building a product line in your business. Just like many companies out there, when they’re selling fruits and vegetables, they don’t just sell apples only.

Or you look at toothpaste. They might have different types of toothpaste. This one is for cavity protection. The second one is for whitening.

Another one is for sensitive enamel gums. There are all kinds of a suite of products to cater to different people’s different interests, and it’s just about a trigger point.
