Listen to the Podcast
Hey, this is Sasha and thanks for joining me here at backstage income where I share with you how to build and grow a profitable business.
In today’s episode, what we’re going to do is take a look at some lead magnet ideas that you could go ahead and use to exchange for an email address.
The whole point behind this is once you have more email addresses that are targeted, you could go ahead and build relationships. Those relationships may eventually turn into clients, so you might be able to make a sale for my product or service.
But it all starts from the lead magnet because people don’t just give away their email address now for no reason.
If you haven’t heard of me before, be sure to get some of the freebies that we have on our website at www.backstageincome.com. So you’re probably seeing them scroll right now on your screen. But if not, take a look there’s a lot of how-to guides, freebies, PDFs, checklists, all that good kind of stuff at www.backstageincome.com.
Now, let’s kick things off and I’ll show you some lead magnet ideas that we’re working on and creating and that I’m developing and these constantly continue to grow and change and adjust and so forth.
Take a look, if you go to the backstage income website, you’ll see we might have:
- Passive Income Strategies
- YouTube Productivity Tips
- Mindsets of the Super Rich
- Ways to Make Money on YouTube
- Local Money-Making Strategies
All these are lead magnets and it’s important that you don’t just have one when you’re building out your email list because some people may be attracted to one thing versus another.
To get things started, I want to share with you these lead magnet ideas that you could go ahead and think about. If you’ve never made one before, start with one.
Once you have one done, you could go ahead and build a second or a third or fourth. But start with one and then eventually build-out and expand your pipeline to getting leads from all kinds of different things.
The first thing and probably one of the easier ones to do is a “How-To Guide”
If you go ahead and start with like a little PDF booklet — it doesn’t even have to be long. It could be a how-to guide.
- how to fix a clogged sink
- how to you know to repair a broken window or windshield on your own
It could be a simple how-to guide. It might not be something that’s always readily available on YouTube. Might be something more specific. It could be a 10-page step-by-step guide on exercises that you would recommend to help strengthen and heal a curved or crooked or painful back.
Anyways, how-to guide is very popular because people are always looking to know how to do something. We’re curious. It’s the curiosity concept.
That’s a good lead magnet to start with because most people can figure this out, to build a lead magnet that’s a how-to procedure.
Lead magnet idea number two is an eBook
A little more complicated to make and create simply because there’s more content in an eBook or a book, for that matter.
It’s a little more difficult to create an eBook but if you have the knowledge to know how the power or the desire to make an eBook or write an e-book then you could go ahead and use this as a lead magnet.
That’s why you oftentimes now see eBooks given away for free because they use it as a lead magnet so that they can later build a relationship and upsell you a course or a high-ticket seminar that’s maybe a thousand dollars.
What they’re doing is they’re giving away eBooks, might be a couple hundred thousand eBooks, just so that they could get two to three thousand people in their seminar. But that might be a five thousand dollar ticket.
In the end, it works out and makes a lot of sense — at least financially — from a business standpoint.
Lead magnet idea number three is a Video Series
If you can create a five-part video series or a three-part video series on how to do something, how to fix something, how to be better at something — then this is also another way that people are willing to give their email address in order to see your video series to see your tutorial, your training, your guide, through video.
Lead magnet idea number four is a Cheat Sheet
These are pretty quick to make and very simple and people digest them very quickly if you have a daily cheat sheet.
So, here’s my daily worksheet or cheat sheet that I use to plan my day, to be more productive, to eat more healthy, to lose weight — all these things get a lot of emails or people jumping on top of them to give their email address to get these cheat sheets because they want something quick, they want instant results. It’s the microwave society versus the crock-pot society.
This works out really well if you have like a one-page, two-page cheat sheet to make something happen — whether it’s losing weight, eat more healthy, run faster — whatever the case is, a cheat sheet works very well as a lead magnet.
Lead magnet idea number five is Templates
If you’re a good graphic designer or developer, you might have a, let’s say, business card template that converts very well — you might have a postcard or a door hanger or a flyer — all these things could be giveaways in order for them to give you your email address so that later you could sell them, let’s say, a pack of business cards or a pack of flyers.
Now, templates could also be just like what we talked about a cheat sheet. A template could be:
- Here’s my template to go ahead and have a YouTube thumbnail.
- Here’s my template for my the Twitter things that we write
- Here’s my template to create Pinterest graphics
All these things could be giveaways to get the email address.
Again, it’s a good lead magnet idea if you’re good at creating things and having templates or have an idea that’s template-based people are willing to give their email address in exchange to get that freebie.
Lead magnet idea number six is a Test or Quiz
It’s like hey find out which celebrity you’re most related to or find out which celebrity you look like the closest to — this is a good test or quiz.
Or find out if you’re smarter than Einstein — all these things people are really curious about.
It plays on that curiosity concept to figure out the test or quiz or the result from these tests and quizzes.
To get the results, oftentimes, you got to put your email address. And usually in the end, after you already spend 30 minutes doing the test or quiz, and by then people are like okay well I’ll put in my email address so that I can get my test or quiz results.
Lead magnet idea number seven is a Webinar
These are fairly popular if you’re doing live training.
Nowadays, people are always pre-recording their webinars. So, I find sometimes, depending on the niche or industry some people have by a lack of attending webinars, they’ll just put in their email address and grab the replay later.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But they’re a little more difficult to set up.
You also have to have the equipment to set it up a video broadcasting or to be able to replay a webinar that you’ve already recorded. Whether you stay around to answer questions or not, it also could depend on the webinar software. But sometimes people can realize if you’re not there on a live webinar. People notice that and these are a little more difficult to do.
But if you do have a live webinar and you don’t do them that often, there could be a huge way to get some lead magnets especially if you have like a guest speaker, maybe something exclusive, this can work out very well.
Lead magnet idea number eight is a Free trial
Anything software related, you notice cloud-based computing software or access to software, like hey
- try our helpdesk ticket system for 15 days
- try our live chat system for 15 days for free
those things work really well as a free trial.
Anything like let’s say evaluate your search engine rankings for your website, you could try it for free for 30 days and then after that if you want consistent access you can go ahead and pay.
So, if you have something that’s membership-based, a free trial could work out very well to collect more email addresses and build your email list.
Lead magnet idea number nine is a Toolkit or Resources
People are always curious about what tools you’re using even though those tools may not be the right choice for them, they’re still curious about it.
It’s one of the reasons why a lot of the earnings reports have become very popular because people show the tools that they’re using.
Sometimes, it’s not the wisest idea because those tools are affiliate links. So even though these are the recommended tools, there might be actually better tools, more cost-effective, cheaper than those tools listed.
The only reason they might be mentioning it is that they are affiliates.
Even though they might say these are the ones, I wouldn’t recommend them if didn’t use them. They use them because they’re able to make affiliate money from them and in fact, there might be better three alternatives but they just don’t have affiliate links. So, the bloggers will use other tools, more expensive tools, so that you as a beginner blogger buy into those tools.
Anyways, these are great lead magnet ideas because people are curious about the tools. But you got to also understand beneath the surface what’s going on, what tools do I personally need for my business.
So, if you’re creating a tool kit and resources for people, make sure you’re doing it in a goodwill manner — not just to take advantage of them to push them into your affiliates.
And finally, lead magnets idea for you is a Top List
- Top 10 tools you should use for your blog
- The top 10 plugins you should use for live chat
- The top 2 email marketing automation services
- The top 10 bloggers who earn the most money
We’re always curious about these things — the top list.
That’s why top lists have become so popular.
This is another good lead magnet idea especially if you can say hey here’s my top 75 most profitable niches that you can use for YouTube, Pinterest or any social media to make a six-figure income.
That’s a cool lead magnet idea that you could now compile into a PDF. People may want to download that because it’s like if I’m interested in Pinterest and YouTube and I want to start an online business, what niche or you know area or industry do I want to get into.
Well, here’s a cool list of 75 and let me go download that and to exchange an email address for something like that — where you don’t have to do your own research. You just get something kind of instant gratification. People are much more willing to do that.
Anyways, I hope you found this helpful. To give you some insight on some lead magnet ideas that you could use to go ahead and create and build out your email list.
Again, don’t think that you have to just build one of these. You could go ahead and continue to expand.
Just like I have here. You just keep building out these lead magnets a little bit at a time and as you go ahead and build more of them out. You’ll find which ones work, which ones don’t. Retire some of the ones that don’t and continue to improve the ones that do work out well.
